CREATE A “ DESIGN BOARD”

Drag photos from Web sites to

your computer desktop and into a document such as Word to see

how items mesh. Jill worried that a navy sofa would be too dark,

but she quickly saw how a red-and-white rug brightened it.

SEE SAMPLES

Computer monitors don't show color precisely, so

request samples. The paint swatches for Jill's island didn't pan out

as she hoped, so she asked for, and got, a custom-mix color.

BARGAIN HUNT

Get in the habit of checking home pages for

daily or weekly deals. Facebook is hot with retailers who post

specials on their fan pages. Niraj's CSN Stores, which includes

“That opened my mind to new ideas and options," Jill says.

COMPARISON SHOP

Jill swears by an iPhone app called

RedLaser, which scans anything with a bar code and lists where to

find the product—both online and in stores—and the cost.
